Mi-homme, mi-femme, mi-ange, mi-démon, Marilyn Manson ne laisse personne indifférent. Haï par les uns, détesté par les autres, ce groupe de hard rock américain, adepte de la bonne grosse provoc, a cependant séduit un public de plus en plus nombreux au fil du temps.

Fondé fin des années 80 en tant que Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, le groupe a dès le départ joué la carte du symbolisme, de la mythologie voire du satanisme. En témoignent évidemment les noms de scène du groupe et de chacun de ses membres, quasiment tous empruntés à des sex-symbols féminins et tueurs en séries.

Musicalement parlant, Marilyn Manson décroche un premier contrat significatif en 1993 auprès de Nothing Records, le label de Trent Reznor, leader du groupe Nine Inch Nails. Le groupe se compose alors de Marilyn Manson (chant), Daisy Berkowitz (guitare), Twiggy Ramirez (basse), Madonna Wayne-Gacy (claviers) et Sara Lee Lucas (batterie et percussions).

Antichrist Superstar, leur troisième album, envahit les bacs des disquaires en octobre 1996. C'est véritablement l'album de la consécration internationale et, pour beaucoup, le meilleur du groupe: le plus explosif, le plus sombre et le plus controversé.

1998 est l'année de toutes les surprises. D'une part, il y a le changement de look du leader: il abandonne l'attirail satanique pour se reconvertir en drag queen. D'autre part, le groupe opère un revirement musical: Mechanical Animals surprend par ses ambiances mélancoliques et ses rythmes glamour, même si l'on retrouve, à plus faibles doses, l'agressivité et la haine présentes dans les oeuvres précédentes. En juin 2007, arrive Eat Me, Drink Me.

Avis: Ah !! Le reverand !!! Bon je ne vais pas mentir, la première fois que j'ai écouté du Manson, je trouver ça vraiment pas terrible. Celà n'avait rien d'exeptionnel. Mais après plusieurs écoutes, on voit vraiment qu'il y a quelque chose. Je ne sais pas quoi vous dire mais sa m'a emporté dans un autre monde, l'univers Mansonnien. Musicalement, il n'y a rien à dire, c'est vraiment extra. Si vous vous référez juste au look du chanteur c'est sur que vous n'êtes pas un vrai métalleux, il faut comprendre ce qu'il dit, les messages qu'il fait passer, l'amour que porte Marilyn pour ses fans. Avis aux amateurs du genre, à écouter avec attention.

NEWS: Marilyn Manson interprète une version d'une chanson qui figurait initialement sur la bande sonore du film d'animation «A Nightmare Before Christmas». On pourra voir le 20 octobre dans 200 salles de l'Amérique. Au Québec, le film doit prendre l'affiche au cinéma Paramount de Montréal.
À noter que Marilyn Manson interprétera «This Is Halloween», chansons du long-métrage; le 31 octobre au «Tonight Show» de l'animateur Jay Leno diffusé à NBC, écouter la pièce sur Http://www.MySpace.com/NightMare3d.
